c. 1938 | O-Letter Varsity Knit | Made in USA
Original late 1930s collegiate sweater, knit from dense green wool and featuring a hand-applied felt “O” varsity letter with “38” designation, indicating the class year of 1938. The sweater is constructed in a heavy, durable knit with ribbed cuffs, hem, and neckline—typical of pre-war American collegiate athletic wear.
The letterform and colorway strongly suggest association with either the University of Oregon or Ohio University, both institutions historically using a block “O” during this period. As with many early collegiate garments, formal labeling of the school was uncommon, leaving attribution to materials, typography, and color.
