About Union Overall Co.
Union Overall was founded in Norfolk, Virginia in 1901 by Samuel Sherrick, Barton Myers, and L. Bach. At the time, Norfolk was a working port city—defined by shipyards, rail lines, warehouses, and the constant movement of goods and people. Clothing here was made to withstand friction, weather, repetition, and time.
The label was relaunched in 2024 by Brian Patrick and Brandy Collins, operating as a small workshop and archive just blocks from the site of the original factory. The work today is not a recreation of the past, but a continuation of intent—approached with restraint, curiosity, and respect for what has endured.
Union Overall draws from a wide range of reference: historic clothing, military and field equipment, early athletic wear, travel garments, and everyday pieces that reveal their purpose through wear. These objects are examined not for nostalgia, but for what they demonstrate about material, construction, and longevity.
From this reference comes a limited body of work. Garments and goods are designed, cut, and sewn in small batches, allowing ideas to be explored carefully and revised as needed. Production remains intentionally modest—not to signal exclusivity, but to maintain clarity, control, and responsibility at every stage of making.
Union Overall exists as both workshop and archive. It is an old name used again, grounded in place and informed by experience—producing clothing meant to be lived with, carried forward, and understood over time.
